Just over a year ago, the Estonian music scene was shaken up by the arrival of the female pop group BLIX, a true breakthrough act. Blending elements of Korean and Western pop culture, the group has crafted a unique style with catchy songs and vibrant choreography—something entirely new for Estonia. BLIX consists of four talented young women: Brianna, Mellin, Lizell, and Mimi. Their debut single, “Võimatu,” dropped on June 17, 2024, and within a year, the group released three more tracks. This summer, their second music video for the single “Tahan veel” racked up over 40,000 views in just two months. Remarkably, BLIX remains entirely independent, operating without managers or stylists. The girls take charge themselves, designing their looks for music videos and performances, with each member bringing her own distinct aesthetic and impeccable sense of style.
Exclusively for Haute Mood, BLIX opened up about their favorite looks from their music videos and shared the stories behind their creation.

In the “Võimatu” music video outfit, I felt truly special thanks to the blue jacket and long black boots, which added strength and drama to the song. There’s definitely some magic in that ensemble, as it was part of our first music video shoot. The jacket was the first item that caught my eye, and I built the rest of the outfit around it, pairing it with details that complemented my vibrant red hair without being too flashy. I drew inspiration from the song’s bold vibe, aiming for a new-age feel that matched the aesthetic of the empty warehouse setting. The outfit reflects my creative and slightly edgy style while maintaining a feminine touch, ensuring the clothes supported the song’s mood without feeling tacky. The pieces are a mix of second-hand finds and items discovered online, as the selection in Estonia is often limited. An amusing adventure happened during a morning show. For a group photo, I had to climb out of a window onto a rooftop wearing a short skirt and high boots. Also, just before the final take of the music video, I had a “nail drama”: my press-on nails fell off, so I had to keep my hands stiffly in one position during filming to avoid anyone noticing.

The “Tahan veel” music video outfit made me feel like a true fashion doll, bursting with confidence and sparkle. The standout piece was the over-the-knee cowboy boots, which inspired the entire look. I paired them with animal-print fringed shorts and a tie-up top, layered with a long-sleeved blue mesh blouse. Since the top kept riding up while dancing, I secured it with a sparkly light-blue bikini top. A butterfly pendant, originally a necklace, was repurposed into a belt with some DIY magic. My childhood dreams of Winx fairies and Bratz dolls influenced my choices—I love layering, asymmetry, and unexpected details. The outfit evoked the vibe of a Latin-American summer music festival, like Coachella. While filming in this look, I got a slight sunburn, which I had to cover up with makeup the next day.

Brianna
The outfit for the “Needy” cover music video allowed me to express my true self, drawing inspiration from Ariana Grande’s style. I chose soft pink pastel tones, cozy fuzzy fabrics, and a high ponytail that matched my role as the band’s “cutie”. During group shoots, you always have to ensure everyone’s looks complement each other. This was my first solo outfit where I had complete freedom to show who I am, and I felt truly myself in it. I wanted the look to reflect the dreams of my younger self—to be an adorable yet glamorous pop star rocking a comfy lounge-wear style. The ensemble perfectly matched the delicate and vulnerable mood of “Needy,” a song about the uncertainties of love while still conveying lightness and trust. I felt the outfit helped me dive into the song’s emotions, expressing my sincere and tender side, creating a visual connection with the music.

Lizell
The “Tahan veel” music video outfit captivates me with its Latin dance energy—hot, liberating, and full of movement. The orange tones evoke a sunset at a southern festival, warm and vibrant. Nude fishnet tights and white cowboy boots add a playful contrast, making the ensemble stand out. I put it together intuitively, wanting something bold, feminine, and graceful that wouldn’t restrict movement but rather highlight it. The makeup, jewelry, and hairstyle add sparkle to the performance. I drew inspiration from Latin dance rhythms, summery vibes, and the powerful femininity of 2000s pop divas like Shakira and Beyoncé. The outfit reflects the sunny, upbeat spirit of our single. Some pieces came from my own wardrobe, others were found online or in stores where my instincts led me. In everyday life, I lean toward a minimalist style, but for performances, I want to create something unexpected and lively that embodies my inner source of energy.
