Over the past two years, the name of 22-year-old model Alex Consani has become synonymous with the fashion industry. By blending her modeling career with activism, she pushes the boundaries of inclusivity in fashion, proving that people like her belong on runways, in magazines, and in advertising campaigns.
How did Alex Consani’s journey begin, and how did she rise to the top of the modeling world so quickly? Much of her success can be attributed to… TikTok!
Early Years
As a young trans girl, I always saw the lack of representation. I wanted to fill the void and show other trans and nonbinary people that it was beautiful to be trans—not something to be ashamed of.
-Alex Consani for Vogue, 2022
Alex Consani was born on July 23, 2003, in California to a mother with Slavic roots who worked in water resource conservation and a father involved with the Guide Dogs for the Blind program. Later, Alex gained a younger brother. From an early age, she began to understand her gender identity and shared it with her parents at age 8. Her family, especially her mother, played a pivotal role in her success, supporting her from the start. After Alex came out at 8, her parents sent her to a summer camp for transgender individuals, and in her teenage years, she began hormone therapy.
Career Beginnings and TikTok Fame
Alex’s modeling career kicked off in 2015 when her mother spotted a Facebook ad from Slay Model Management in Los Angeles, an agency specializing in trans models. This made Alex the world’s youngest transgender model. At 16, she signed with the prestigious IMG Models, but the pandemic temporarily halted her plans. During this time, Alex started a TikTok account (@captincroook), where her humorous videos quickly gained traction. By 2022, she had over 700,000 followers, and today, that number has surpassed 6 million.
Rapid Rise and Global Success
In 2021, after graduating high school, Alex moved to New York and enrolled at Pace University but soon dropped out to focus on her career. That same year, she made her runway debut for Tom Ford’s Spring/Summer 2022 season. Her career skyrocketed: being in the right place at the right time and riding the wave of inclusivity, Alex captured the attention of the fashion community. The following season, she walked for Alexander McQueen and Versace, later collaborating with brands like Chanel, Diesel, Burberry, Chloé, Thom Browne, Ludovic de Saint Sernin, Marc Jacobs, and Givenchy.
Alex achieved remarkable success in a short time. She worked with renowned photographers like Mario Sorrenti, Ethan James Green, and Harley Weir, graced the covers of Vogue Italia, Vogue Japan, and Harper’s Bazaar, and starred in campaigns for Marc Jacobs, Etro, UGG, and Swarovski. The latter created a crystal-embellished dress for her, in which she shone at her first Met Gala in 2025.
2024 was a landmark year for Alex. In October, alongside Valentina Sampaio, she became the first “trans angel” to walk in the Victoria’s Secret show. On December 2, 2024, she made history as the first transgender woman to win “Model of the Year” at the British Fashion Awards, where her global influence and dominance in the industry were celebrated.
Alex Consani is more than a model—she is a symbol of transformation in the fashion industry. With her bold style, authentic charisma, and courage to be herself, she is rewriting the rules of the runway, inspiring millions. Her story is just beginning, and we are certain that many more iconic moments with her are yet to come.
